141 Expo is a visionary and ambitious project that creates a partnership between the towns of the province of Varese with the States participating to Expo 2015. As part of this initiative, the Municipality of Comerio has been linked to the United States of America and, taking inspiration from the original theme of this universal exhibition, has decided to respond by literally “feeding” people in a typical American style.
The Municipality of Comerio has accepted this challenge and thanks to its local restaurants has organized an “ad hoc” menu to make all Americans, Canadians, onlookers and sympathizers of the stars and stripes spend a special and originally American evening… without having to do 7 hours of flight!
The mayor Silvio Aimetti reaffirms the importance of this initiative and the great opportunity to enhance and promote the cultural, historical sites and traditions of Comerio and would like to put into practice during the EXPO a partnership with Benton Harbor, the historical headquarters of Whirlpool America.
To find the origins of Thanksgiving Day we have to go back to 1621, when the Plymouth settlers and the natives of the Wampanoag tribe celebrated together the autumn harvest festival, on the day that is now being recognized as the first Thanksgiving Day celebrated in the American colonies. This meal, performed during the harvest, became the symbol of cooperation and interaction between English colonists and Native American tribes. In the following centuries the feast of Thanksgiving Day spread throughout the country and the tradition has reached the present time, as established by President Lincoln in 1863, stating that it should be celebrated every year on the fourth Thursday of November. Americans are extremely fond of Thanksgiving Day and in every home a turkey is cooked and also offered to the neighbours: as a matter of fact, the basic concept of this day it is solidarity.
Don’t miss the date with the true savours of America. Happy Thanksgiving to everybody!
